Foods you must eat when you are visiting Barranquilla


Coconut rice

Today we bring you one of the most exquisite and typical dishes of the Colombian Caribbean coast, in Barranquilla it is very common to go to the beach or almost any restaurant and eat this delicious dish and if you are visiting the city, you can not miss it without tasting it.

Empanadas

Empanadas are a typical dish in most cities of Colombia. Some are made with yellow flour, others with white flour, some with meat, others with chicken, stew, without stew, with potatoes or without potatoes. But, they are all delicious. Each bite is full of that delicious Colombian flavor.

Arepas

It is one of the culinary badges of the Caribbean Coast, and the basis of the local economy. There are many families, especially women head of family, who have their tricks and secrets for the preparation of this delicacy.

There are arepas with egg, with sweet, chocolo, cheese, stuffed with chicharron, chicken, etc. When it comes to making arepas, we are quite creative.

Chuzo desgranado

The shredded chuzo is a typical Barranquilla fast food that consists of a "pincho" (or chuzo, as we call the costeños) grilled, shucked on a plate. This can be chicken, meat, sausage, sausage, or any combination of these meats chosen by the consumer. Thus, the chosen meat is placed on a bed of chopped lettuce and mixed with pieces of clean bun, grated coastal cheese, dog chips and tartar and pineapple sauces to the client's taste.

That dish that all Barranquilleros seek, especially on weekends, to kill the craving one night, quench the hunger after a rumba, or spend a hangover. And is that the famous chuzo is so popular that can be found in any area of the city.

Bollo de yuca

The use of cassava in the gastronomy of Barranquilla is a clearly indigenous heritage. They use this tubercle since time immemorial.

Today is an ingredient present in many recipes, including the yuca bun.

It is a very simple dish to prepare and with few ingredients. Only cooked cassava, salt and corn husks are needed.

After grinding the yucca, you have to wrap the resulting paste with the corn leaves. They are usually served to accompany other dishes

Enyucado

This dessert is a good sample of the mixture that was between the indigenous and African cultures, since it takes ingredients provided by both.

In Barranquilla and the rest of the Caribbean region is the most popular dessert, being very easy to prepare.

The base is a mixture of yucca and coconut, both grated. To these ingredients are added sugar, butter, anise and coastal cheese; the latter is an essential element on the Caribbean coast. It can be found in many street stalls.

 

Butifarras

It is a type of sausage or sausage made of beef and pork with spices such as salt and pepper. It is made by cutting the meat into very small pieces that are then boiled.

This preparation is placed inside a bowel and tied in several sections that are cooked in boiling water.

Butifarras are often offered at street food businesses; the vendors offer it by shouting "buti, buti, buti" while hitting the metal stores where they are. They are traditionally served with freshly squeezed lemon juice.

 

Carimañola

It is a fried cassava dough that may contain meat, fish, chicken or cheese; these proteins are usually prepared in a stir-fry before the cassava pie is filled.

Carimañolas are typical of the Caribbean region. This dish is usually served with different sauces.
